What is a chakra?

Chakras are the energy centres of the body. The Sanskrit word ‘chakra’ translates to ‘wheel’ or ‘disk’, referring to these spinning wheels of energy within us. The body houses 7 chakras, situated along the spine; running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Chakras should be opened and aligned to allow for the free flow of energy. They correspond to vital organs, endocrine glands, bundles of nerves, emotions and our physical well-being.

When we are exposed to negative surroundings, energies, people, places or things, or when we have repeating negative thoughts and feelings, our chakras can become blocked and imbalanced. When a chakra becomes blocked, the flow of energy is disturbed which can impact our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. A blocked chakra can also represent itself by physical symptoms. We may also find it more difficult to deal with certain aspects of life.

Chakras can be blocked (inactive), under-active or over-active. It is important to balance the chakras for complete well-being.
